Vancouver Pregnancy Care CenterHad some time to develop the mock-up of the Vancouver Pregnancy Care Center website a little more, fleshing it out and making changes based on feedback from the first one. I like where it’s going and have wanted to do a site like this for quite some time.

My Ring

Posted in Christianity by darren on the June 29th, 2005

Over the years sometimes I get a little fatter and sometimes skinnier. When pudgy my wedding ring is securely held on with the extra ‘meat’ but most of the time I hover on the skinnier side which means my wedding ring can be quite loose and I have developed an irrational fear I will lose it at an inopportune time – like when leaning over the side of a large building or ferry, perhaps irretrievably into a stinky urinal or some such horror. I’ve developed a reflexive curl of the finger when I feel it move or when I’m in one of those ‘dangerous’ places, and a pleasant side effect of this strange behavior is I’m reminded of my wife and my marriage.

I wonder if sin in the life of a Christian can act similarly. That God has us struggle in a particular way that causes us to reflexively curl our finger and remember our affliction, our Lord and our task. My sin causes the ring, my commitment born out of my new nature to conform to the image of Christ to , I suppose, slip and I will be reminded that it is there.

First site was tight.

Oh so groovy. I just found the carefully thought out plan for my first website back in ‘99. It was drawn on the back of a wedding photo package advertisement while waiting in the car parked in the church parking lot for my then fiance, now wife, to finish Chinese language services. Ah, the memories…

Work Area

Posted in Bonsai by darren on the June 28th, 2005

This is my messy work area. This year is the most developed it’s been as in previous years the ‘display’ shelf was in a closet with clothes on it and I had no potting bench, so any potting was done hunched over a pot on the deck. Now I’m feeling a little more established and enjoy getting out back to putter a lot more.

Next project is to build myself a turntable for easier visualising and working on trees.

Prosumer-smoshumer

Posted in Design by darren on the June 28th, 2005

No ‘prosumer’ for me. After much agonizing I decided not to get a half-breed prosumer camera and instead went for a good quality ‘point-and shoot’ for our indoor spur-of-the-moment pics, and throw-it-in-my-back-pocket-for-the-trip-to-the-mall-in-case-I-see
-something-interesting pics. You know those ones, right?
We ended up with a
Sony DSC-W5
. I compared it with the Sony DSC-P200 and it was no contest. They both rated good by both consumers and critics, but when in hand the quicker, smoother zoom and 2.5″ LCD made it an easy decision. I had really wanted the higher mega-pixel W7, but wasn’t able to justify the couple more hundred it would’ve cost for the added res and few more menu items.

My clever ploy is to use this in conjunction with a yet to be purchased (yet even to be saved for… ) DSLR – most likely Nikon D70 with a couple of lenses to replace our current Pentax Z-1P.

I also wasn’t prepared for the size of cameras these days. I’m used to associating quality with quantity to a certain extent with particular kinds of purchases, and it’s still hard to realise that this little ‘toy’ is actually (hopefully) well made, packed with features, and takes great shots.
