Image Insanity
Opportunity & Necessity ganged up to put a dent in our bank account. The opportunity came up to purchase a used Nikon D70 (which I’ve wanted for quite some time) at a good price.

Our 3yr old son getting his hands on our camcorder and rendering it useless provided the necessity what with another baby coming along soon. Can’t have a major life event happen without a camcorder on hand… I found a used Canon Optura40 on craigslist which is a significant step up from our old one.
Now we have two sizable manuals to read…or more accurately leaf through…to be precise put aside in a drawer and forget about never using 85% of the cameras features.

“…But where were you when I pulled the door handle, only to find (after a slight back strain) that the door needed a push?
And where were you last fall when I followed instructions on my new end table, only to mistake the long screw for the medium screw—drilling right through the table top.
Oh what about the three dozen times I’ve filled out a form only to discover that the line I just put my name on, was actually intended for my address?…”
Text, texture, colour & form
I really like the recent ad campaign by ING. They do text, texture, colour and form quite well.
I’ve seen these posters and magazine ads everywhere and they catch my eye. The corporate orange does a great deal to grab your attention, but the boldness of the ads which are all text, and lack of images makes them stand out in row of skytrain posters.
The text is of varying font sizes and words and lines are placed at slightly differing angles. I think the layout of each ad is very well done as this approach is not easy to pull off effectively and still have a cohesive and tight message.
Some distressing has been added to the ads which give them a look befitting the skewed text, but also adds texture.
Finally, the messages on the few versions of the ads have have been well tuned and read very fast, are clever, and the message is clear.
…if I see them for too much longer though they will become quite annoying…
Photoshop fun
What do you get when you take a Saturn convertible,
add the roof from a Lotus Exige (Roof), wheels from a Lumma BMW, (Wheels), ground effects from a Ferrari, (Ground Effects), intercooler from who-knows where (Intercooler), and background from a photo shoot of the RalliArt Mitsubishi Eclipse (Background)?
You get this:
