Life with the new addition

Posted in Life by darren on the April 20th, 2006

It’s been a bit of an adjustment with our new son to say the least. Most of the difficulty stems from our 3yr old realising he doesn’t have the same access to mommy he once had. I think he’s also just sensing the changes and stress we’re all under and reflecting that. But as a result he’s cranked up the intensity of the ‘terrible threes’ to 11.  Won’t listen to a word anyone says, or even better  will do the opposite with a scream and stomping feet. Speaking of screaming there’s plenty to be had from the little guy. And how’ bout that fake crying? Need any of that, because we  have it in spades. Describing some of the particular characteristics here doesn’t quite convey the chaos a freaking-out three year old can introduce into a household.

I’m confident and have it on good authority that this stage will pass. I can only hope I’m able to endure…

Pinky dainty?!

Sitting on the skytrain today I had a little chuckle recalling a current ad for Amp’d mobile that I find very humorous where a pretty average looking guy standing on a subway of some sort points to a big black guy and a skinny little old man sitting adjacent to eachother and says, “you and you: fight!”. They lunge at eachother while he turns to an old bearded guy with a radio on his lap. “you: turn the radio up!”. Then he turns to a heavy black lady. “You: shake your junk!” She gets up, grabbing a pole and starts to dance.  The tagline was “The power to entertain yourself.”
And then in looking for something about the ad online I found something relating to my eye opening experience on the skytrain, and this fellows similar experiences and much more detailed analysis of the nose pick .  He notes;

“He used his pinkie finger, which gave the whole procedure a refined, even dainty air, making the activity seem almost cultured.”

errr… Cultured? How about unsanitary and repulsive. Now where’d I put those rubber gloves.

We have a new son!

It’s about time I posted about this. I’ve been a little busy…both with the changes in our life and recuperating from said changes.

Baby boy

On April 5th, a healthy 6lb 7oz boy was added to our little family making us four. We didn’t know if it was to be a boy or girl, and would have told any who asked before he was born that we didn’t care with which sex God blessed us with, but honestly with a rambunctious 3 year old boy tearing around I think we were both hoping for a girl. We’ve already got all the Thomas the train, front-end loader and monster truck enthusiasm we need around here and I think Amy would’ve liked a little girl to make pretty and buy dolls for. But it wasn’t to be and poor Amy is outnumbered. We are head over heals in love with this tiny little person and can and can’t wait to watch him grow and find out who he is as we have and are doing with our 3 year old. Praise the Lord for such a blessing as Adrien.

Spring pics

Man I love spring. We have a small ‘corner park’ across the road with a variety of trees and small patch of grass. Just popped over for half an hour to take some shots of the blossoms playing with appeture and shutter speed. I went a little crazy with the shallow depth of field this 50mm lense can produce which meant I had a lot of mis-focused images.
