Weekend wisdom
My poor parents spent a goodly amount of money on my teeth when I was a teen in the form of braces, retainers, elastics, and all those other orthodontic contraptions youth are wont to be burdened with. And they did their work. I can remember actually being complimented on my teeth at one one point or two in my life.
But moving out on my own and the subsequent lack of financial stability meant that for a great many years dental care was a luxury. And my wisdom teeth, one in particular, took that opportunity to make his move…in fact over the course of those un-orthadonted years he also shoved many of his adjoining friends out of the way in an effort to free himself from impacted-ness. This wisdom tooth never made it all the way out and was causing me no end of grief.
So last friday that blighter and three of his hidden friends were unceremoniously removed from my head. It was a weekend of relaxation and reflection. Well more than that a weekend of discomfort and bananna smoothies. But none the less the Oxycodone HCI/Acetaminophene did afford me some compulsory relaxation which was appreciated.
Bed time story gone awry
I’ve got an idea; one that’s straight from my brain.
It’s a troublesome thought,
fraught with trials and pain.
A blog post is written,
in regular time,
but generally contains no meter or rhyme…
Why not post in a poem?
Lets get off our caboose,
and write our blog postings,
like Doctor the Seuss?
We’ll write every day,
we’ll write long and short posts,
we’ll rhyme them like rappers,
and children’s show hosts!
Lets make them newsworthy,
letsĀ give them some interest,
lets make them quite worthy,
of the Googling search quest.
But now my idea is just running so thin,
It’s too hard to think straight through the loud din within!
This idea isn’t worth even a cent or a buck!
To tell you the truth in a word,
it quite sucks!
For who wants to read or to write such vain drivel,
from the pen of someone who rhymes each bloody syllable?!
Where do these things come from?
Was there gin in my juice?
Ideas of blog postings like Doctor the Seuss!
Lets end this train wreck,
and put it to bed,
resolve never again,
let ideas in my head.
First Tooth!

Our youngest cut his first tooth this week. Another one’s not far behind. He’s eating and sleeping a little better these last few weeks…(after 9 months I should hope so!!!) and I can sense a collective sigh as we all seem just a little more relaxed. A little less barking at each other. ‘lil more love around here.
First few weeks we could put him right down in his crib and he would sleep (as well as a 2 week old sleeps). But after a stay in Childrens at 3 weeks old we’ve never been able to get him to sleep on his own in his crib. Especially without disturbing his older brother in the same room. Well tonights our first night of committing that he won’t sleep with us. With everyone more relaxed I think it’s the right time.
Babel bus
Standing in line for the small shuttle home the three girls in front of me were speaking broken English and Japanese. I got in past an old man and woman speaking Cantonese and sat down. A Hispanic couple got on the bus speaking Spanish to eachother. As we got going two woman sitting at the front of the bus were talking very loudly and boisterously in French. It was really nice to hear…I haven’t heard if for some time and it’s a nice sounding language. They sounded fun.
Almost home and I notice that it’s just me and an older East-Indian couple left on the short bus. I don’t know for certain because I didn’t hear them talking but I’d wager they spoke a different languange. On a bus that only carries 24 passengers it’s pretty neat to, by happenstance, find yourself surrounded by five or six different languanges. Amazing.
Ski then snack then Stewart
It never ceases to amaze me that an hour ago I could be at the top of a mountain skiing with wind and snow, and now padding around a warm house far from there in bare feet and sweat pants contemplating a yummy snack and John Stewart starting in 10 minutes. And all this after a full day of work. Amazing.
