I made a trip to the Okanagan to check out a Kia Rondo and ended up driving home in it. It was the perfect weather for a road trip and a great opportunity to get used to this new car.

Sick again and again and again

Amy’s pretty good about updating the calendar with ‘events’. Events can be anything from a family outing to, ‘Ethan starts coughing’, and ‘Adrien threw up in bed’.

So updating my Google calendar, and being that Amy’s in still finishing off the coughing and fevers of last week and I seem to be just getting something, I was interested in when we were last sick and how often. It appears in the last five months we had at least six bouts of sickness with one or another or all of us, with one week of wellness between bouts this month. We have friends with kids and they all just never get sick…never…so what’s the difference? Do we need to do more crunches and sit-ups? Do we need to wash our hands more? less?

At any rate I’m going to console myself with the idea that our immune systems being strengthened for any impending epidemic that may occur. Yeah, thats the ticket!

When it comes to cars I’m still a bit of a little boy. I get giddy when I see fancy wheels or hear a noisy engine. So it was driving home today sitting at a light I see a Lamborghini Gallardo… Then another one… Then a Ferrari… Ferrari… Ferrari… Porsche… Lamborghini… etc. all turning onto Mary Hill bypass.

My previous top exotic car moment was driving north along the PCH when a line of Ferraris and a Lambo go screaming by in the other direction. The combo of the setting and the cars made that memorable. But I’d never seen so many as today.

I gunned it and caught up to the grouping but there was more coming up from behind. My favourite, the Murcielago, saw at least two. And they were all going my way-for about 15 minutes, bouncing back and forth following each other through traffic, jousting for position, passengers with cameras or camcorders catching one another as they screamed past. I was a giddy little kid watching these very expensive vehicles all around me-it was a treat. New tuned Nissan GT-R screaming by, Murcielago on my back bumper, F430 in front of me…This is better than seeing them sitting in a parking lot.

When I got home, after excitedly recounting what I’d seen to Amy and the boys, (Wish the boys had been with me-they’d have got such a kick out of it) I did a little searching to find out if they were parking anywhere around for a show & shine or something. Turns out they were on their way to Harrison and back. There’s some pics of the cars there as well as some here. Sure a nice treat.

I need encyclopedic knowledge!

Last night while tucking Ethan into bed he asks me, “Dad, I know Rabbits eat carrots and Dogs eat bones,…but…what do Ducks eat?”

Having never actually considering this question myself I tried to digress and discuss the inaccuracies of the media’s portrayal of animals and their diets explaining that rabbits don’t really eat carrots in the wild and enjoy a great many other vegetative varieties while dogs don’t actually ‘eat’ bones but only will chew on them given the chance. This tactic didn’t really work and as soon as I was finished blathering on he asked again “ok…but what do ducks eat?”.

I may have told him they eat bugs and small fish in desperation. The only thing I could recall for certain witnessing them eat was was bread…usually distributed by a human so I was pretty sure that wasn’t part of their natural diet. I don’t even think they can bake. The smart thing to do would’ve been to tell him I’d explain once I got back from the bathroom and then make a b-line for wikipedia, like pulling a coin from behind his ear, but I panicked.

Anyway turns out I was a little right they do eat a great variety of things including bug larvae and small fish depending on species and season – Dodged that bullet. But what about next time? I need encyclopedic knowledge!
